The LIGHT project shed light unconscious biases and invisible racism across Europe

Jan 21, 2025

The LIGHT project, coordinated by the International League Against Racism and Antisemitism (France) in collaboration with its European partners KMOP – Education and Innovation Hub (Greece), Centro Per Lo Sviluppo Creativo Danilo Dolci (Italy), Stichting Radio La Benevolencija Humanitarian Tools Foundation (the Netherlands) et Stowarzyszenie Centrum Wspierania Edukacji i Przedsiębiorczości (Poland), has the ambition to fight unconscious biases and invisible racism, by offering concrete solutions to raise awareness against this phenomenon and providing tools to youth professionals in Europe.

It developed tools to act against biases and invisible racism:

  • Among the key achievements, multiple tools have been developed: A toolbox with 30 pedagogical tools: this resource proposes key concepts, learning methodologies and innovative exercises to help professionals to create invisible racism and unconscious biases awareness among young people and stimulate discussions.
  • 7 self-revealing tests: these interactive tools allow to identify individual’s own unconscious biases.

In addition, awareness and experimentation workshops for young people have been developed, providing concrete opportunities to recognize, analyse and deconstruct prejudices, thereby enabling reduction of invisible racism manifestations.

A bright future next steps of the LIGHT project

On the strength of these results, the LIGHT consortium is preparing to expand the project’s range and impact through:

  • The creation of a MOOC platform: an interactive educational platform offering structured contents to raise awareness and build capacity and knowledge of youth professionals on unconscious biases and invisible racism.
  • A capacity building program: a series of learning sessions to equip local actors and youth professionals’ actors to implement the LIGHT resources effectively on the field.
  • European events: the organisation of conferences, workshops and awareness campaigns to disseminate good practices, share tools and engage local communities in the fight against invisible racism.

Measuring impact for improvement

The LIGHT project is committed to ensuring its resources remain effective and relevant. By employing both quantitative and qualitative indicators the project will rigorously assess its results, allowing for the continuous improvement and refinement of its tools and methodologies.

A project for a more inclusive Europe

Co-funded by the European Union as part of the Erasmus+ program, the LIGHT project reflects a shared commitment of all partners to promote equality, respect and diversity. By using innovative pedagogical tools and encouraging open discussions, the project empowers young people and youth professionals to deconstruct prejudices and tackle invisible racism.
