Who We Are

Five European organizations unite to harness the power of youth work in addressing unconscious bias and invisible racism

Ligue Internationale Contre le Racisme et l’Antisémitisme (LICRA) – France

The International league against racism and antisemitism (Licra) is the oldest antiracist association in France, it was created in 1927. The main objectives of the association are to fight online and offline racism and antisemitism and to promote republican and universalist values, such as secularism.

Licra was set up to support and defend all victims of racism and anti-Semitism. It has also made education and awareness-raising about the fight against racism and anti-Semitism an essential part of its work. It organises more than 1,000 educational activities a year throughout France in schools, sports clubs, universities and with French police officers.

For several years now, the Licra has been involved in several European projects to combat hate speech and hate crimes, both online and offline. Today, Licra is delighted to be involved in the LIGHT project, an innovative educational project focusing on unconscious biases and invisible racism. This project is a continuation of Licra’ fight against racism and anti-Semitism.

The Center is committed to support the uptake of innovative and participatory educational approaches in formal and non-formal contexts; to encourage active and responsible citizenship, democratic participation and community dialogue through research and action processes oriented toward social change; to promote nonviolent development, critical thinking, responsible, empathetic and reciprocal communication and to contribute to social justice by creating conditions for the valorisation of the individual in harmonic growth with the environment, fostering social inclusion and advocacy of rights for all.

Stichting Radio La Benevolencija Humanitarian Tools Foundation – Netherlands

Radio La Benevolencija Humanitarian Tools Foundation (RLB) is a Dutch NGO that creates Media Entertainment -Education (Edutainment) campaigns to embed psychological knowledge and stimulate attitude change, promoting active bystandership against identity-based violence (IBV). Since 2004, the organization produces, broadcasts and impact-evaluates long-running edutainment radio dramas in concert with related video and audio infotainment programs and grass roots activities to national audiences in Rwanda, Burundi and in the DR Congo.

Evaluations of these formats serve as action-research on how to create audiences that are resistant to Identity-based incitement. In Europe, the organization uses this impact-evaluated methodology in new media to prevent the on- and offline radicalization of vulnerable EU citizens by providing “resilience know-how” and triggering critical thinking through bespoke online video gaming formats, trained internet trawlers, as well as social campaigns aiming to reach a resistant, trans-European target audience of young adults (18-35 years).
